What are Valinches?
The so-called Valinch is actually a tube made of copper with which you can pull the whisk(e)y from a barrel by holding your finger on the upper smaller hole at the end of the Valinch and the tube
through the barrel hole into the barrel. The tube is then pulled out again and the whisk(e)y is allowed to flow into the glass to be tasted.
At Bruichladdich, this designation stands for two casks, that are in the distillery's store on Islay. One peated variant (Port Charlotte) and one unpeated variant (Bruichladdich).
Visitors can fill two different single cask bottlings from these casks on site. Two of these bottlings, or rather their cask ends, can be seen in the picture on the left.

Was sind eigentlich Valinches?
Der sogenannte Valinch ist eigentlich ein Rohr aus Kupfer mit dem man den Whisky aus einem Fass ziehen kann, indem man auf das obere kleinere Loch am Ende des Valinches seinen Finger hält und das Rohr durch das Fassloch in das Fass führt. Sodann zieht man das Rohr wieder heraus und lässt den Whisky ins Glas fließen und verkostet ihn.
Bei Bruichladdich steht diese Bezeichnung für zwei Fässer, die im Shop der Distillery auf Islay stehen. Eine getorfte Variante (Port Charlotte) und eine ungetorfte Variante (Bruichladdich).
Aus diesen Fässern können sich Besucher vor Ort zwei verschiedene Single Cask Abfüllungen abfüllen. Zwei dieser Abfüllungen beziehungsweise deren Cask Ends sind auf dem Bild links zu sehen.

Jedes Label ist irgendwie entstanden. Mal war es eher ein zufälliger Einfall, weil das Fass schon auf dem Weg in den Distillery shop war, mal war es ein geplantes Label, das einen besonderen Anlass honorieren sollte.
Mehr Informationen zu den einzelnen Labels, bekomme ich von Roddy MacEachern, der lange Jahre diese Labels bei Bruichladdich entworfen hat oder an ihrer Entstehung beteiligt war. Roddy lebt mittlerweile in Australien, hat mir aber Informationen zusammengestellt, die ich hier gerne mit Euch teilen möchte. Da es mittlerweile sehr viele Valinches gibt, werde ich die Seite nach und nach vervollständigen.
Every label came into being somehow. Sometimes it was more of a random idea, because the barrel was already on its way to the distillery store, sometimes it was a planned label that was intended
to honor a special occasion.
I get more information about the individual labels from Roddy MacEachern, who designed these labels at Bruichladdich for many years or was involved in their creation. Roddy now lives in
Australia, but has compiled information for me that I would like to share with you here. Since there are now a lot of Valinches, I will complete the page bit by bit.
